Marcus M. Kaufman, a retired justice of the California Supreme Court, will return to practicing law in Orange County.
Kaufman will join Albert, Weiland & Golden LLP of Costa Mesa as an advisor and consultant to the firm.
“It is extremely rare for a former judge of his stature to join a private law practice,” said Theodor C. Albert, a partner at the firm.
Kaufman will focus on appellate and procedural matters in both state and federal jurisdictions. He will advise firm members on bankruptcy litigation and real estate issues, and will serve as an unofficial mentor to the firm’s junior partners.
Kaufman was appointed to the state Supreme Court in 1987 and served until his retirement in 1990.
