Silver Charm Among 11 Entered for Malibu Stakes on Opening Day

Silver Charm worked a half-mile in :47 3/5 Tuesday morning at Santa Anita, then drew the No. 7 post position in an 11-horse field for Friday’s season-opening Malibu Stakes.
Silver Charm, the winner of the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, will be making his first start since finishing second behind Touch Gold in the Belmont Stakes on June 7. The $200,000 Malibu, a seven-furlong race, drew this field, in post-position order:
Swiss Yodeler, Alex Solis riding; Carnavale, Brice Blanc; Trafalger, Kent Desormeaux; Latin Dancer, Corey Black; Crypto Star, Corey Nakatani; Lord Grillo, Eddie Delahoussaye; Silver Charm, Gary Stevens; Apalachee Ridge, Garrett Gomez; Flaming West, Laffit Pincay; Mud Route, Chris McCarron; and Emailit, David Flores.
Silver Charm and Trafalger, both owned by Bob and Beverly Lewis, will be coupled in the betting. Under the race conditions, Silver Charm and Crypto Star will carry high weight of 123 pounds apiece, with Lord Grillo next at 119 pounds.
