Dome of Hot, Dry Air Will Keep the Heat On

The heat is on this week as unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to bake the San Fernando Valley.
Today and Tuesday, highs will be in the upper 90s, forecasters said. The mercury will moderate later in the week, dipping into the mid-80s to lower 90s Wednesday and Thursday and into the low to mid-80s by Friday.
A dome of hot, dry air above the West is pressing downward, blocking ocean breezes and causing temperatures to soar, said John Sherwin, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc.
“Any time you have those factors, that’s when temperatures really soar in Southern California,” Sherwin said. Today’s high temperatures are expected to be 98 in Van Nuys, 96 in Burbank, 98 in Woodland Hills and 96 in Chatsworth, forecasters said.
