Kollen Opts to Play Softball at Michigan

Kelsey Kollen of Mater Dei has made an oral commitment to attend Michigan on a softball scholarship, said Monarch Coach Doug Myers.
Kollen, who set a Southern Section single-season record with 67 hits in 1996, needs 24 to break the career record for hits.
She batted .452 and scored 37 runs last season.

Dana Chuha, a 5-11 setter for Esperanza’s girls’ volleyball team, has orally committed to Baylor, said Isaac Owens, her coach with the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
Chuha was a second-team All-Sunset League selection last year, when the Aztecs reached the Southern Section Division I-AA semifinals.

David Simcox has been named girls’ water polo coach at Foothill High, girls’ Athletic Director Jerry Whitaker announced.
Simcox, a teacher at Foothill who once coached boys’ water polo and swimming, replaces Jim Brumm. Brumm is the Foothill boys’ water polo coach.
