BUENA PARK — Chris Hulton rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown and stopped Brian McDonald on a two-point conversion as Savanna defeated Buena Park, 15-14, Friday at Buena Park High.
Leon Kellum rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown for Savanna (3-1). McDonald led Buena Park (1-3) with 121 yards and two touchdowns.
Penalties hurt Buena Park throughout the first half, but none more costly than on the first play from scrimmage. Eric Wolford’s apparent 84-yard touchdown run was nullified by a holding penalty.
Savanna opened the scoring in the second quarter when Hulton scored on a 56-yard sweep.
McDonald took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown and added a two-point conversion.
Savanna had a chance to extend its lead in the third quarter, but quarterback Robin Dano couldn’t score on fourth and goal from the one.
Buena Park marched 99 yards on eight plays, capped by McDonald’s one-yard run. The Coyotes had converted the extra-point kick, but a Savanna penalty gave them the ball at the one. McDonald was then stopped by Hulton.
