IRVINE — Investigators say a 15-year-old girl they caught cooking up narcotics in her home learned the recipe on the Internet.
After a call from the girl’s uncle, who was concerned about the mysterious chemicals his niece was working with, Irvine police went to the home in the 14900 block of Groveview Street on Thursday night, Sgt. Brian Clifton said.
The girl admitted making methcathinone, or “cat,” a stimulant similar to methamphetamine, for her and her friends, Clifton said. She already had thrown away two failed batches, he said, and “as far as we know, she got her information off the Internet. The recipes are out there.”
The girl was arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance and taken to Orange County Juvenile Hall.
