Exon, Chappell in Semifinals for UC Irvine

UC Irvine’s Darian Chappell and Natalie Exon advanced to today’s semifinals at the Cal State Fullerton Tennis Championships.
Chappell, seeded No. 1, defeated Cal State Northridge’s Kelly Edwards, 6-2, 6-0. Chappell plays Northridge’s Nely Horowic today.
Third-seeded Natalie Exon defeated UC Santa Barbara’s Shannon Wilkins, 6-2, 6-3.
Chappell and Carla Nasca, seeded No. 1 in doubles, advanced to the semifinals by beating Milissa Dillard and Jackie Jocson of UC Santa Barbara, 6-4, 6-4.
Exon and Nickole Kabe lost in the quarterfinals to Horowic and Isabella Peintner, 6-0, 6-1.
At the Bronco Cross-Country Invitational:
UC Irvine women share first place--Claire Tillotson finished 18th in 19 minutes 3 seconds over 5,000 meters to lead the Anteaters, which tied UC Santa Barbara for first place.
Allyson Marquand, a junior at University High running unattached, placed third overall in 18:15.3.
Monica Landa of Southern California College finished 13th in 18:50.0 and Erin Remy finished 14th in 18:56.0 to lead Cal State Fullerton, which place third in team scoring.
At the Fresno men’s golf invitational:
Irvine finishes eight--Mike Lawrence finished tied for third with a three-day total of 218 as UC Irvine finished eighth. Lawrence had scores of 74-70-74 and finished one shot off the lead at San Joaquin Country Club, par 72.
Brigham Young’s Michael Henderson defeated UCLA’s Brandon DiTullio in a playoff for the tournament championship.
UCLA won the team title with a total of 878. Brigham Young was second (881 points).
In Big West Conference women’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, Utah State 0--Senior Nique Crump had 10 kills to lead second-ranked Long Beach State, which rolled over Utah State, 15-8, 15-3, 15-5.
New Mexico State 3, UC Irvine 0--Larissa Carter posted 12 kills for the Anteaters (6-16, 1-9) in a 15-11, 16-14, 15-7 loss.
North Texas 3, CS Fullerton 2-- Katie Crawford had 15 kills for the Titans (12-12, 4-6), which lost in five games, 11-15, 15-11, 15-11, 7-15, 16-14.
