The Gatorade National In-Line Skate series will stage its fourth annual championship events Saturday and Sunday on the pier.
About 100 contestants, which include first- and second-place winners from nine cities across the country, will compete against California skaters, said Rick Stark, one of the tour’s creators. When the championships end, $150,000 in prize money will have been distributed, including about $20,000 over the weekend.
The contestants, about one-fourth of whom are women, are scheduled to do tricks such as the “fish brain,” in which a skater slides down a rail on one skate, holding the other out horizontally in front of him, said Stark.
