Anna Elizabeth Danks Oney, a 42-year Ventura County resident, died Thursday at the Mary Health of the Sick Convalescent Home in Thousand Oaks after a lengthy illness. She was 77.
Born in Greensburg, Pa., Oney moved to Moorpark with her husband, Henry, and two daughters in 1955.
She was a clerk at Rainey’s Market and Spencer’s Market, both in Moorpark, before becoming a homemaker.
In 1974, the family moved to Camarillo, where Oney was a member of the St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Through this organization she volunteered at Camarillo Convalescent Home for many years.
Oney was also a member of the Ventura County Food Share.
“She was very generous in caring about others less fortunate than herself,” said Katherine Palmerton, Oney’s granddaughter. “It was because of her love for God. She was a good Christian person, a good Catholic.”
Oney is survived by her daughters, Paulette Gregory of Camarillo and Marcia Moak of Ventura; sister Patricia McLaughlin of New Stanton, Pa.; brother Thomas Danks of Greensburg; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Pierce Brothers Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The vigil will begin at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass will be said at St. Mary Magdalen Chapel in Camarillo at 10 a.m. Monday. Oney will be laid to rest at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park in Camarillo.
Donations may be sent to the Mary Health of the Sick Convalescent Home, 2929 Theresa Drive, Newbury Park, 91320.
