Council to Review Freeway Noise Study

The City Council tonight will review a $15,000 study on how noise from the San Diego Freeway affects residents along Via San Vicente.
In June, residents in the Las Brisas and Capistrano Gardens Homes complained to the council about noise after construction improvements by the Transportation Corridor Agency along Interstate 5.
Residents asked the five-member panel to urge the agency to build more berms or soundwalls. To help determine the extent of the problem, the council funded an independent noise study.
According to the study conducted by Giroux & Associates of Irvine, the noise levels do not exceed the mandated federal level.
Sampling was done around the clock over three- and four-day periods this summer. The tests were conducted at nine sites and determined peak noise for each area.
Because of the study’s findings, William M. Huber, the city’s director of engineering and building, is recommending that the council take no further action on the issue.
