Cleanup Planned for Stretch of Ballona Creek

The Sanitation Department and the Rotary Club are co-sponsoring a cleanup of 3 1/2 miles of Ballona Creek from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Volunteers can sign up that morning at a creek-side bike path entrance where they will be given gloves and cleaning materials, said Joan Satt, Sanitation Department co-manager.
The fourth annual cleanup is intended to help restore the creek and help minimize storm water pollution runoff into Santa Monica Bay.
“It’s true we’re not on the coast. But Santa Monica Bay cannot be considered clean until the creek is clean,” said Satt.
The cleanup includes painting out the graffiti on the creek’s concrete walls, and will be followed by a picnic.
