Council Selects Official City Motto

“Preserving the Past to Enhance the Future.”
That’s the new official motto of San Juan Capistrano.
The council this week selected the slogan from a list of six suggestions, including “Family, Community, Tradition,” “City With a Mission: Good Living and Tradition” and “Emerald of the Capistrano Valley.”
City officials have been searching for a motto for nearly two years in response to a request from the San Juan Capistrano Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber last year collected ideas from residents and appointed a committee to make a recommendation to the council. The committee collected 68 suggestions and forwarded six finalists to the council.
“I think certainly a city as well-known as San Juan Capistrano needs [a motto],” chamber Executive Director Tom Facon said.
The new slogan soon will be seen on the city limit sign and other local informational material and publications.
