Report: Gretzky Deal in Works

The New York Rangers are working on a new three-year contract that would keep superstar Wayne Gretzky with the team through the end of the century, according to the New York Daily News.
Gretzky, 36, is entering the second of a two-year, $11-million contract and is eligible for unrestricted free agency after the season.

The Montreal Canadiens extended the contract of Rejean Houle, 47, the team’s vice president and general manager, through the 2000-2001 season. . . . The Washington Capitals suspended right wing Peter Bondra, who has refused to play in any more exhibitions until his contract is renegotiated because he doesn’t want to risk an injury. . . . The Pittsburgh Penguins have worked out a deal with 1995 first-round draft choice Alexi Morozov but first must buy out his contract with his Russian team, Krylja Sovetov.
