*** Stereolab, “Dots and Loops,” Elektra. Britain’s Stereolab has forged a career out of turning formerly absurd sounds into quirky, sonic masterpieces. Their seventh album lures you in with perkier rhythms and more cohesive melodies than past efforts, but still includes Stereolab’s trademark droning vintage organ, layers of “futuristic,” ’50s hi-fi effects and the cool vocal harmonies of Mary Hansen and Leatitia Sadier. Though hardly kitsch, this eclectic outfit continues to revitalize Muzak for the ‘90s.
Albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor) to four stars (excellent).
