Colin ‘Cozy’ Powell; Longtime ‘Power-Rock’ Drummer

Colin “Cozy” Powell, 50, drummer with Emerson, Lake & Powell and other rock bands. Known for the hit single “Dance With the Devil,” Powell joined a reconstituted Emerson, Lake and Palmer in 1985. When the group, which mixed classical and rock influences, appeared at the Greek Theater and issued its album “Emerson, Lake and Powell,” a Times reviewer praised Powell’s “straightforward, power-rock style.” A Briton, Powell began his career in 1965 with the Sorcerers and later played with Bedlam, Cozy Powell’s Hammer, Whitesnake, Rainbow and Black Sabbath. On Sunday in Bristol, England, in a car crash.
