Boat Procession Will Honor Hero Korber
A solemn procession of boats will motor through the Ventura Harbor on May 12 as a memorial to Paul Korber, who drowned in early March as he rescued a mother and her two children from the surf near the harbor entrance.
On the boats will be Korber’s fellow harbor patrol officers, other law enforcement officers, rescue personnel, family members and friends.
The memorial procession is set to begin at 10 a.m. The boats will follow a Harbor Patrol vessel on a short sweep through the harbor. The procession will end with fellow patrol officers dropping flowers into the ocean near where Korber died while rescuing the mother and her children from treacherous rip currents.
Afterward there will be a small gathering at Hornblowers restaurant.
