Police to Honor Late Officer’s Memory

The last time a Huntington Beach police officer was killed on duty was Nov. 11, 1974, when Leslie J. Prince was hit by a car while directing traffic.
Police still remember his service and the price he paid as the second city officer to have died on the job.
The force will join other police departments nationwide on May 11 to commemorate fallen officers. A color guard and bagpipers will participate in the local ceremony at Prince Park, which was named for the officer.
The city’s other fallen officer was Leo R. “LeRoy” Darst, who was killed in a traffic accident on duty in 1928.
The event begins at 10 a.m. in Prince Park on Trinidad Island. The public is invited.
