Senate Barely Keeping Up Filling Federal Judgeships

WASHINGTON — The Senate has confirmed 20 Clinton judicial nominees this year, according to a tally by the liberal Alliance for Justice. That compares with two confirmed at this time last year.
The group notes that, even so, the pace barely kept up with the vacancy rate. In January, there were 86 openings on the federal bench. Now there are 80. And with the shortened work schedule this election year, the number of vacancies may not be much lower by Jan. 1.
