GIRLS’ ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Oli Keohohou
SCHOOL: Newbury Park
YEAR: Sophomore
SPORT: Softball
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Coach Pete Ackermann calls Keohohou, a 5-foot-6 bundle of power and speed, “the best I’ve ever coached.” If statistics are any indication of talent, consider these: Keohohou, a sure-handed first baseman, is batting .593 with 19 runs batted in. Nineteen of her 35 hits have been for extra bases, including seven doubles, seven triples and five home runs. “Good hitters are born that way. Great hitters make themselves that way,” Ackermann.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Keohohou, among the region’s leaders in nearly every offensive category, was a tough out in four games last week. The first baseman was nine for 13, with a double, three triples and a home run. And when she was called upon to relieve the starting pitcher, Keohohou struck out the four batters she faced.
