A Newport Beach socialite convicted of selling cocaine to an undercover police officer was admitted to the Orange County Jail Monday to begin serving a 10-month sentence.
Tina Schafnitz, 38, reported to the jail in Santa Ana about 6:30 p.m. “She is here and being processed,” a jail spokesman said.
Schafnitz pleaded guilty last week to selling $1,000 worth of cocaine to an undercover police officer. She also admitted having a handgun in her Mercedes-Benz when she sold the cocaine.
In addition to the jail time, she must pay a $5,000 fine and serve three years’ probation. A judge earlier denied her request to serve the sentence under house arrest.
After her initial screening, jail officials said Schafnitz will be transferred to another facility, yet to be determined.
