SYLMAR — An 18-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting Thursday that wounded another man, Los Angeles police said.
Christopher Pilkenton, 18, of Sylmar was killed as he stood with a friend in a driveway in the 14900 block of Genoa Avenue, according to Lt. Michael Brooks of LAPD’s Foothill Station. Witnesses told police they saw three Latino men with shaved heads in a moving compact car. At least five rounds were fired from a semiautomatic pistol, police said.
The injured man, a 27-year-old Sylmar resident, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center and then transferred to UCLA Medical Center for surgery on a leg wound. He was listed in good condition, police said.
Although the gunmen are suspected gang members--and the area in which the shooting occurred is gang territory--the victims did not have gang affiliation, police said.
