Poly High upset Reseda, No. 1 in The Times’ boys’ soccer rankings and its most bitter rival, 2-0, on Friday in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly.
Erick Calvillo’s corner kick in the 17th minute curved inside the far post for the first goal and Eduardo Tovar scored on a 20-yard shot with seven minutes left.
“We just weren’t sharp,” said Terry Davila, co-coach for Reseda (5-1, 2-1 in conference play). “Guys were over-dribbling, receiving passes badly and getting desperate.”
The officials doled out six yellow-card warnings for rough play and ejected Carlos Morales, Reseda’s captain and All-American midfielder, for a flagrant foul with five minutes to play.
The Parrots (1-1-2, 1-1-2), who forfeited the conference title last season because they used an ineligible player, are 2-0-1 against Reseda in the last three meetings.
Reseda, defending City Section champion, played two games in six hours Friday. The Regents beat Calabasas, 3-1, in a quarterfinal of the Burroughs tournament.
