A.J. Guyton and the No. 11 Indiana Hoosiers made quick work of overmatched Boise State Friday at Bloomington, Ind.
Guyton scored a season-high 26 points and the Hoosiers made 30 of 38 free throws in a 90-66 victory in the opening game of the 25th Indiana Classic.
“We took them out of the game early with patience, ball movement and good shots,” Guyton said. “We did a good job of cutting to the basket and hitting guys for easy layups. That’s something we haven’t done as much of in previous games.”
The Hoosiers (9-2), unbeaten in the event’s history, advanced to tonight’s championship game against Bowling Green, a 90-48 winner over Grambling State.
“Guyton was very active with and without the ball,” Indiana Coach Bob Knight said. “He played a good all-around game.”
Indiana reserve William Gladness had 11 points, and Luke Recker had 10 points, three assists and four steals. Roberto Bergersen led Boise State (5-2) with 30 points, 19 in the second half.
No. 9 Purdue 78, Valparaiso 70--Carson Cunningham scored 18 points, including 12 in a row in the second half to lead the Boilermakers in the opening round of the Boilermaker Invitational at West Lafayette, Ind.
“I got a nice little rhythm going. It felt good to finally help my teammates,” said Cunningham, who transferred from Oregon State. “They have been supporting me and I have been struggling. I’m just happy to help with a [win].”
Alan Eldridge finished with 14 points and Greg McQuay added 13 points for Purdue (9-1).
Lubos Barton led Valparaiso (8-2) with 16 points.
