Bayno Playing It to Stop the Run

Nevada Las Vegas Coach Bill Bayno, whose team will face the Bruins today at Pauley Pavilion, says the Runnin’ Rebels have to play their best defense to defeat UCLA for the first time in school history. UNLV is 0-3 in the series.
“We’ve got to get back [on defense] in transition,” Bayno said. “We can’t give up any easy baskets.
“They’ll go on a 10-0, 15-0 run. We can’t let that happen. We have to do a great job rebounding, and we’ve got to be patient offensively.”

Sophomore guard Baron Davis has played two games since returning to the Bruins’ lineup after last season’s left knee surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.
Despite some rustiness from his layoff, Davis has played well in averaging eight points, 3.5 assists and two rebounds. His biggest problem so far has been making basic shots like free throws and layups.

Freshman Jerome Moiso has been a steady performer for UCLA. He leads the team in scoring (13.7 points) and rebounds (6.2). In making 56.7% of his shots from the field, Moiso is fifth in the Pacific 10 Conference in shooting percentage.
