Larry Flynt

* I never thought I would be writing a letter in praise of Larry Flynt. However, I have to admire him for his restraint in heeding Bonnie Livingston’s plea not to publish the details of her husband’s affairs (Opinion, Dec. 27). I’m sure it would have sold a lot of magazines. Would that Kenneth Starr had been as kind.

Flynt’s message, “Leave Clinton alone. Leave Livingston alone,” is wrong. President Clinton and Rep. Bob Livingston kept a secret that made them targets for blackmail. Because of their access to military classified information, this is the public’s business, not a private matter.
Such conduct would be likely to result in the refusal or revocation of the security clearance of a member of the armed forces, a defense civil servant or a defense contractor. The same standard should be applied to elected officials.
