Warner Bros. Records Executive Steps Down

Jeff Gold, Warner Bros. Records executive vice president and general manager, resigned his post Wednesday after declining to take a different job at the label, Warner Bros. spokesman Bob Merlis confirmed.
Gold, one of the top executives at the Time Warner unit, joined Warner Bros. in 1990 and was elevated to his most recent post in 1995. Though Warner Bros.’ performance was disappointing overall in 1997, Gold’s division is credited with breaking Grammy-nominated artist Paula Cole.
Gold’s departure is seen by some as a possible first step in consolidating the operations of the Warner Bros. and Reprise labels.
In an unrelated move, three top promotion department executives at Warner and Reprise were let go in the last few weeks.
