School Board Clears Way for Belwood Sale

In the first official move needed to sell a site, the Simi Valley school board has unanimously voted to make Belwood Elementary School a surplus property.
The Kadota Street school was closed by the Simi Valley Unified School District in the 1980s because of an enrollment slump, but now the district wants the money from the sale to help pay for improvements to its 29 campuses.
Four preschools and two church groups are renting space at the 13-acre site, and when the building is sold, they likely will have to relocate.
Grace Brethren Schools, which leases two of Simi Valley’s other closed schools, has shown interest in buying the Belwood site for a permanent home.
The building will be sold to the highest bidder in April, and the school board has set the minimum price at $1.2 million.
