Anthony, from Brea Olinda High, missed three games this season after twisting her ankle. She returned last week and had her best game of the season. Anthony scored 19 points in the second half and 28 in the game as Santa Ana beat Irvine Valley, 78-68, Friday. She had two key three-pointers in the closing minutes. She had scored 17 in an 84-52 victory Wednesday over Golden West.

* Cypress, sophomore. Had the game-winning shot in one game and assisted on the winning shot in another victory for the Chargers.

Ben Esplin

Irvine Valley, freshman

Basketball

Esplin, from Vacaville High in the Bay Area, made two vital shots last week for the Lasers. He made a three-pointer that gave Irvine Valley a 68-66 lead over Saddleback with about a minute left. Saddleback tied it at 68, but Esplin got an offensive rebound and made the winning basket with 16 seconds left in a 70-68 victory. He finished the week with 25 points in two Irvine Valley victories.
