City Will Help With River Crossings Study
- Share via
The city will participate in a study on proposed Santa Ana River crossings between the Fountain Valley-Huntington Beach border and Costa Mesa.
Two bridges have long been proposed in a county highway plan to reduce traffic congestion, although construction funds have never been made available.
The study will examine three options:
* Building bridges connecting Garfield Avenue to Gisler Avenue in Costa Mesa and Banning Avenue with 19th Street in Costa Mesa.
* Scrapping the project.
* Building an alternative route linking Garfield Avenue to the southbound San Diego Freeway, and constructing a bridge connecting Brookhurst Street to 17th Street via Bluff Road.
The county, Costa Mesa and Newport Beach will share the $200,000 cost of the study. Fountain Valley will commit staff hours to the project.
