Garden Grove Pacifica 1, Glendora St. Lucy’s 0--Amanda Freed scored on a wild pitch and also earned the victory on the mound for the Mariners, who beat St. Lucy’s in the Division III championship game for the second year in a row.
Sophomore Tiare Auelua was at bat when Freed scored from third base on a 1-2 outside curve that glanced off catcher Natalie Anter’s glove. It was St. Lucy’s pitcher Shannon Walsh’s first wild pitch in 225 innings.
Freed (17-2), who had thrown three consecutive no-hitters, gave up four hits and struck out five.
