Pirates Put Silva on Disabled List

Pittsburgh Pirate right-hander Jose Silva, who suffered a broken right arm Tuesday when he was hit by a pitch, was put on the 60-day disabled list Wednesday. Silva is 6-3 with a 3.44 earned-run average.
Pittsburgh purchased the contract of pitcher Mike Williams from triple-A Nashville to replace Silva.

The Houston Astros, soon to be playing in a new ballpark, will show their appreciation by remaining in Texas for the next 32 years. The Astros have agreed to a lease with the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority that will keep the defending National League Central Division champions in Houston until 2030.
Construction on The Ballpark at Union Station in downtown Houston began last November and the facility is scheduled to open in 2000.

The Cincinnati Reds added left-handed pitcher Rick Krivda to the roster and designated reliever Marc Kroon for assignment.
