A 41-year-old Ventura man was stabbed early Saturday when a group of people attacked him while he was walking through a west Ventura neighborhood, authorities said.
Thomas Finley was walking shortly after midnight near West Warner and Olive streets when someone called to him from an alley, police said.
Thinking it was someone he knew, Finley walked to the alley, where he was jumped by three or four people. As he turned to run, police said, Finley was stabbed in the back.
Bleeding heavily from his wounds, Finley ran to a nearby home where emergency workers were called, authorities said. He was taken to Ventura County Medical Center where he was reported in serious but stable condition, they said.
Officers were still searching Saturday for suspects.
