* I was pleased to see your extensive coverage June 8 of the Rancho Mission Viejo Land Conservancy butterfly count.
Please allow me to correct your caption for the featured photograph. The butterfly perched on the binoculars is a Chalcedon Checkerspot, not a Painted Lady as indicated.
Both have orange, black and white markings, so confusing them is understandable.

* We were excited over the terrific coverage The Times gave June 8 to the butterfly census count of the Orange County chapter of the North American Butterfly Assn.
We started this butterfly census with four people in 1991, and this year had more than 40. Thanks for your conservation awareness.
