“At the first meeting of the Rhone Rangers up in San Francisco Saturday, I tasted a really nice Syrah from Sierra Vista Winery, which is up near the foothills in Eldorado County. It’s a very solid wine from a warm-weather area; it’s more like Chateauneuf-du-Pape than Hermitage. It’s a little more toward the red fruit end of the scale than that purple-blackberry type fruit you get in cooler areas, and it’s rounder with smoother tannins. And it’s about $12 a bottle retail, which in the world of wine is a pretty darned good price for a wine of this quality.”
