Raises for Seasonal, Part-Time City Help

About 500 part-time temporary and seasonal municipal employees will receive a 4% raise over the next 10 months, after going without a salary increase since 1991.
The City Council this week unanimously approved a two-year contract agreement, which will go into effect Saturday. It will provide a 2% increase; an additional 2% will become effective Dec. 28.
Deputy City Administrator Robert Franz said the increase was important to attract quality employees and to avoid differences between temporary and full-time employees. The city’s total cost to provide the pay increases will be approximately $40,000 a year.
The agreement marks the third time since December that the city has agreed on a wage increase for employees.
The city has yet to reach a contract agreement with six bargaining groups including police, fire and marine safety employees.
