Hearings to Discuss Offshore Drilling
A federal agency will hold a series of public hearings beginning tonight to evaluate the future of oil and gas drilling off the coasts of Ventura, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties.
The meetings, initiated by the Department of Interior’s Minerals Management Service, will be part of a study of proposals for new oil and gas production in coastal waters.
The study also will review a “no new development” scenario backed by environmental groups that would stop further drilling.
Tonight’s meeting is set for 6:30 to 9:30 in the Ventura City Council Chambers, 501 Poli St.
In Santa Barbara, a meeting is scheduled March 18 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at the Miramar Hotel.
