Conejo School Plans Information Session

Parents interested in giving their children a nontraditional approach to education are invited to an informational meeting at the Conejo School at 7 p.m. on March 12.
Teachers will give an overview of the program and offer a tour of classrooms.
The elementary school, which houses about 110 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, is closer to a magnet school than a neighborhood campus because it draws students from throughout the Conejo Valley Unified School District and even outside the county, teacher Colleen Briner-Schmidt said.
While the “open alternative classrooms” does work within district and state curriculum, teachers pursue creative, thematic approaches for student exploration, she said.
Parents also are heavily involved in the program, coming to class and helping children work on projects in the school at 280 Conejo School Road.
