Scott Brokaw of Chatsworth High was selected as the City Section boys’ scholar athlete of the year.
Brokaw, a senior who competes in golf, basketball and baseball and has a 3.7 grade-point average, will receive a $2,000 college scholarship grant.
SOCCER
Committed: Chatsworth High midfielder Beezy Preis, who has helped the Chancellors win the past two City Section 4-A titles, has committed to UC Santa Barbara.
Close to home: Kerrie Clavadetscher of Chaminade committed to Cal State Northridge, Chaminade Coach Mike Evans said.
VOLLEYBALL
Aiming high: Harvard-Westlake High will move from the lowest to the highest boys’ playoff level.
The Wolverines, who competed in Division III last season, will compete in the Southern Section Division I playoffs.
The decision came after a team meeting Monday night.
“They know they can play with the best, but they wanted acknowledgment from each other that if they made the commitment to Division I, that they’d work hard to get the finals,” Harvard-Westlake Coach Jess Quiroz said.
TRACK
Field day: Cal State Northridge will host a track and field clinic for boys and girls, grades 6-8, on Saturday at 9 a.m.
This is no cost for participation in the clinic.
The clinic, which will be held from 9 a.m. until noon, will include stretching and drills to teach youngsters fundamentals of various running and field events.
Participants can compete in an all-comers meet at 12:30.
Information: (818) 677-3608.
