War Crimes Panel Rejects Serb’s Plea

THE HAGUE — A U.N. war crimes tribunal rejected a Bosnian Serb’s guilty plea to the 1992 rape of Muslim women, saying Friday that his lawyers had not fully briefed him.
Dragoljub Kunarac pleaded guilty Monday to a charge that he raped two Bosnian Muslims.
If accepted, Kunarac’s plea would have handed the tribunal its third conviction overall and its first for rape.
Kunarac pleaded not guilty to three other charges related to the same allegations.
But a three-judge panel at the Yugoslav war crimes tribunal was not convinced that Kunarac understood the charges, and they entered an innocent plea on his behalf.
