Arroyo Seco

The Arroyo Seco (“Should Historic Status Go to a Freeway?” March 7) is beautiful despite, not because of, the freeway running through it. As for the road itself, six lanes of concrete don’t become “visually attractive” simply because they curve and lack offramps.
The northern 110 is America’s first freeway. Notable? Yes. Historic? In a land of preserved burger stands, perhaps. Worthy of conservation? Get a life, Los Angeles. It should be photographed for posterity, torn up and replaced with a decent light railway.
