Two California Highway Patrol officers investigating an accident were hurt when a truck crashed into two stopped vehicles on a freeway median, causing one of them to hit the officers, authorities said Wednesday.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Tuesday on the southbound San Gabriel River Freeway south of Katella Avenue in Los Alamitos, said CHP Officer T. O’Toole.
The officers were hit when a pickup driven by a 33-year-old Whittier woman drifted onto the median, hitting a car and a Jeep that were parked there after an earlier accident, O’Toole said. The officers were taken to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center. One suffered moderate injuries and was released after treatment. The other was hospitalized with “severe” injuries, O’Toole said.
The pickup driver, who was unhurt, was not cited, O’Toole said.
