Creative Gifts Abound at Arts Festival

Art, jewelry, food and crafts were abundant in Warner Ranch Park on Saturday, the first of a two-day Fine Arts and Crafts Festival.
About 7,000 people attended, said Ronda Mills of West Coast Artists, who organized the event. With 120 booths, several visitors said they started their holiday shopping early.
“I love it because I find unique Christmas gifts,” said Linda Chiriff of Northridge.
Artist Mitsuo Sanbonmatsu was in happy spirits as he described his silk-screen paintings, many of which depict animals.
“This is my activity in retirement,” said Sanbonmatsu, 77, who came all the way from Arroyo Grande, near San Luis Obispo.
He said his best-selling work is called “The Couple.” It depicts two cats made to appear like an affectionate human couple, arm in arm.
“I like animals, especially cats. You can relate them to humans,” said Sanbonmatsu. “I like to make fun of people through animals.”
The festival runs through today, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5800 Topanga Canyon Blvd.
