Cathedral Duo Breaks State Records in Rout

Robert De La Cruz of Cathedral High passed for a state record nine touchdowns and receiver Earvin Johnson had a state record eight scoring receptions Saturday night in the Phantoms’ 67-38 Santa Fe League victory over winless Panorama City St. Genevieve.
De La Cruz completed 28 of 39 passes for 503 yards for the Phantoms (8-1), who led 20-0 and the end of the first quarter and 33-16 at halftime. He broke the record of eight touchdown passes shared by six players.
Johnson, who broke the record of six touchdown receptions shared by three players, had 12 receptions for 251 yards. He scored on plays of 14, six, 50, 24, eight, 44, six and 24 yards, his final touchdown coming with 2:52 left in the game. David Ruiz caught De La Cruz’s ninth touchdown pass.
Juan Martinez gained 114 yards for St. Genevieve (0-9).
