San Marcos 28, Ventura 14--Sophomore Tyler Ebell rushed for 109 yards in 25 carries for host Ventura (4-5-1, 1-3).
The victory gave San Marcos (3-7, 3-1) a share of the league title with Buena.
Ventura narrowed its deficit to 21-14 following quarterback Mike Anderson’s five-yard touchdown run with 3:20 to play, but San Marcos’ Alex White picked up the ensuing onside kick and ran 47 yards for the final score.
The Cougars trailed 21-0 early in the fourth quarter when offensive lineman Trevor Marks scored on a nine-yard run on a fumblerooski.
Quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt of San Marcos rushed for 129 yards in 11 carries, including touchdown runs of 66 and 33 yards. He completed four of 11 passes for 41 yards and one touchdown.
Anderson completed eight of 16 passes for 77 yards and gained 49 yards in 17 carries.
