From Times Wire Reports
Mormon church President Gordon B. Hinckley chose Easter Sunday to announce the church will rebuild its historic Nauvoo Temple, destroyed by arson and tornado in 1848, after the Mormons moved West. In his surprise disclosure at the end of the faith’s 169th Annual General Conference in Salt Lake City, Hinckley said the rebuilt temple will stand as a memorial to those who built it. The Nauvoo, Ill., temple was dedicated in 1846, after most of the beleaguered Mormons had left on their massive exodus to the Salt Lake Valley.
