The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, will consider today an agreement to help find a new owner and possible new uses for the historic Fox Theater, which has been boarded up since 1987. Under the agreement, the city would be responsible for finding a new owner for the Harbor Boulevard theater and would commit $25,000 in marketing efforts; the sale price is $1.8 million. The city would not be under any obligation to buy the property if a buyer does not come forward. The Redevelopment Agency would determine later whether to make a loan to the buyer.
The agreement doesn’t specify how the property would be used. Potential uses include a theater, restaurant, bookstore or office complex. The City Council meets at 4 p.m. in chambers, 303 W. Commonwealth Ave. Information: (714) 738-6311.
