Arson-Plagued Compton School Hit by Fire Again

COMPTON — Another fire burned classrooms at a Compton high school Friday evening, just days after city officials declared a state of emergency in response to a string of arsons at local schools.
The fire at Centennial High School was reported about 7 p.m. and probably had been burning for about an hour, said Compton Fire Capt. Charles Jefferson.
The fire is the ninth blaze to hit six Compton schools since March, causing $1.7 million in damage, according to city officials. It is the fourth fire at the Centennial campus, located on El Segundo Boulevard at North Central Avenue.
The cause of the fire and extent of damage were still being investigated Friday night, Jefferson said.
