Detroit defenseman Todd Gill will miss four to six weeks because of a broken arm he suffered during the Red Wings’ tie with New Jersey on Monday night. And defenseman Larry Murphy is day-to-day because of a mild concussion.
Both injuries resulted from hits by New Jersey’s Krzysztof Oliwa. Murphy, 37, was injured in the opening minutes after tying Tim Horton for most NHL games played by a defenseman (1,446).

New Jersey defenseman Kevin Dean will miss the Devils’ game with Carolina tonight because of an irregular heartbeat, and probably Thursday’s game at St. Louis.
Dean, 29, was hospitalized during Monday night’s game with the Red Wings after developing the irregular heartbeat following the second period.
The five-year veteran had a series of tests performed Tuesday. Dean has played 38 games for New Jersey, recording six assists.
