Police Seek Driver Who Killed Pedestrian, Fled

Police are looking for a hit-and-run driver who fatally injured a pedestrian.

Liborio Duenas, 51, died after he was struck while crossing Webb Avenue, north of Strathern Street, at 8:25 p.m. Tuesday, said Det. Jim Mann of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division.

The North Hollywood man, who suffered a fractured pelvis and internal bleeding, was taken to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was pronounced dead, Mann said.

Duenas was crossing mid-block when a white Chevrolet Suburban with dark tinted windows traveling north on Webb hit him, Mann said. According to witnesses, the driver stopped briefly, then continued north toward Roscoe Boulevard, he said.

“Apparently [the driver] knew what he did,” Mann said. “If he hadn’t left, it would be a tragic accident, unless he had been drinking. Now it’s a hit-and-run felony fatal.”

Anyone with information should call the Valley Traffic Division at (818) 756-8391 or (818) 756-8381.
