Dominguez Prepares for No. 1 Oak Hill

The Compton Dominguez boys’ basketball team, ranked ninth in the nation by USA Today, will play top-ranked Oak Hill Academy (Va.) in the featured game of the eight-game Nike Extravaganza Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.
Dominguez (19-2) is led by senior guards Marcus Moore and Keith Kincaide and sophomore center Tyson Chandler. Oak Hill (24-0) is led by guard Stephen Blake, who has signed with Maryland, and frontcourt players Ronald Slay (Tennessee) and Travis Watson (Virginia).
The event is divided into two four-game sessions:
10 a.m.--Tustin vs. Upland.
11:30 a.m.--Santa Margarita vs. Servite.
1 p.m.--Long Beach Poly vs. Villa Park.
2:30 p.m.--Crenshaw vs. Ocean View.
4:30 p.m.--Lakewood Artesia vs. Mission Viejo Capistrano Valley.
6 p.m.--Glendora vs. Fullerton Troy.
7:30 p.m.--Santa Ana Mater Dei vs. Oakland Bishop O’Dowd.
9 p.m.--Dominguez vs. Oak Hill Academy.
Tickets are $8 for the early session, $12 for the late session.

Glendora senior Casey Jacobsen has been selected to the 12-player USA Basketball men’s junior national team that will play an under-20 world all-star team March 28 at Tampa, Fla.
Jacobsen, who will attend Stanford, is 75 points away from the state scoring record.

The Southern Section girls’ water polo playoffs don’t begin until Feb. 18, but the Irvine Southern California Championships that begin today and conclude Saturday will feature competition that figures to be just as strong.
The 32-team field features defending tournament champion Long Beach Wilson, San Diego Section power Coronado, Irvine, Newport Harbor and other strong Southern Section programs.
Semifinals and finals are Saturday at Heritage Park in Irvine.
